Tommy come tutte le sera si stava preparando per andare a letto.
E come tutte sere stava facendo quei piccoli riti che preparavano al coricarsi.
Si era quindi appena lavato i denti, si era cambiato, mettendo il pigiama con gli orsetti che tanto gli piaceva e si era messo sotto le coperte, aspettando trepidante che la nonna venisse per salutarlo e dargli la buona notte.
A Tommy piaceva quando era dalla nonna, questo non perché non volesse bene ai suoi genitori, gliene voleva moltissimo, ma perché la nonna raccontava delle storie incredibili sulla vita prima.
Già, prima, stava pensando Tommy, lui in effetti il prima non l’aveva mai visto.
Sua nonna glielo aveva raccontato spesso, di nascosto dai suoi genitori, perché loro non volevano che si spaventasse.
Ma le storie della nonna erano belle, sembravano reali e incredibili allo stesso tempo…
“Allora, Tom, non dormi ancora?”
“No, nonna, ti stavo aspettando!”
“Non vorrai che ti racconti ancora vero? lo sai che il papà e la mamma non vogliono…”
“Dai, nonna, l’ultima, dai!, altrimenti non riesco a dormire”
“E va bene, ma è l’ultima volta…allora…cosa vuoi che ti racconti questa volta?”
“nonna, nonna , in un vecchio coso…li-libro?”mm-mm…la nonna accennò un leggero sì con la testa un po’ preoccupato, pensando che prima o poi avrebbe dovuto disfarsi, di tutta quella roba…
“nonna, ho visto dei cosi, delle immagini di case enormi, con in parte delle specie di torri grandissime…nonna, cos’erano? Mi sembra che dicessero che erano ch-chiese?”
“Esatto, Tom, erano delle chiese, dentro la gente pregava..
“Pregare………..? Cosa vuol dire pregare, nonna?”
“Vedi Tom, è difficile da spiegare, ma prima che tutte le religioni venissero dichiarate illegali, perché fu a causa loro che successe…………e la nonna fece un piccolo gesto con la testa, appena percettibile, un leggero moto, un velo che per un momento le coprì gli occhi, un pensiero lungo poche frazioni di secondo, eppure così lungo, così lungo…
…dicevo, in quei luoghi, che erano grandi proprio per dimostrare la potenza di Dio, gli uomini parlavano con Dio…”
“dio? Parlare con dio? Chi è dio? E perché ci parlavano?”
“si, Dio…tu non ne hai mai sentito parlare, Tom, perché è una parola innominabile, ormai, il governo centrale non vuole che questa parola venga detta, Tom, quindi stai attento e non ripeterla mai, quando sei fuori…”
“va bene, nonnina….” “me lo prometti?” “te lo prometto, parola! Cos’e dio, nonnina?”
“Dio…Dio..Dio….vedi secondo la Storia Dio non sarebbe altro che un sogno, un immaginazione degli uomini, costruita per rendere più semplice il credere che la nostra vita, qui abbia un sendo…e…mi capisci Tom?”
“più o meno, nonna….ma perché gli uomini avevano deciso di fare dio?”
“ohoh, Tom, loro non lo avevano deciso, ci credevano, pensavano che Dio fosse in alto, dappertutto, e che li vedesse…dio era sempre esistito, per loro…
“oh, credo che ho capito, ma nonna, cosa vuol dire pregare?
“eh, Tom, pregare vuol dire parlare con Dio, vedi, quando volevi fortemente che succedesse qualcosa, o volevi che andasse bene tutto, o semplicemente per dire grazie, gli uomini pregavano…e costruivano questi grandi case per pregare e per dire grazie a dio…”
“oh, ho capito, nonna! C’erano delle foto dove delle persone stavano in ginocchio con le mani giunte e gli occhi chiusi!…..e Tom mimò il gesto, mettendosi in ginocchio sul letto, mani giunte…
“esatto Tom, ma non farlo! Lo sai che queste cose antiche sono vietate!”
“va bene nonna” “bene, e adesso a dormire! E mi raccomando, questo è il nostro segreto, mi raccomando….gli occhi della nonna sono serissimi, pensò Tom, “sì, nonna, lo prometto, se mi dici che mi racconterai ancora….” “va bene, Tom, ma adesso a letto, domani i tuoi genitori tornano presto!, buona notte..” “buona notte nonna, disse Tom, raccogliendosi all’interno delle calde coperte..”
la nonna diede un bacio sulla fronte del bambino e usci dalla cameretta, chiudendo la porta…
…ma Tom non riusciva a dormire, continuava a pensare a dio, agli uomini, ai racconti della nonna…
…improvvisamente, quasi come se lo avesse sempre fatto, come se fosse una cosa naturale, istintiva quasi, si sedette sul letto, giunse le mani, chiuse gli occhi….
E, per la prima volta nella sua vita, pregò.
Pregò, perché, un giorno, potesse vedere il sole.

Mi piace molto questo testo. Non so se l’eliminazione di Dio ci sia già in Orwell in “1984″ . L’originalità di un fil rouge tra presente e passato è ciò che mi ha più affascinata leggendolo.
